ChatGPT is among the factors driving an expansion for an Edinburgh-based tech firm, which has set its sights on new hubs in Manchester and London in the next 12 months.

ClearSky Logic has also seen demand soar for its expertise in reducing carbon emissions linked to tech, integrating blockchain and supporting fast-growth firms looking for investment.

The company, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh and a satellite operation in Glasgow, has grown its headcount to 25 this year and expects to add 10 to 15 more to meet project demand.

Darren Auld, CEO and co-founder, said: “We are reducing business risk for companies when it comes to implementing tech and software, and with an agile group of highly specialised people in place we liken ourselves to a special ops team. Working on a project basis following a thorough preparation phase, we can deliver software much quicker than the competition.

“We are at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, helping some of the most ambitious companies in the UK scale faster with quality software, designed and delivered from the ground up.”

Siccar, Urocked, and Investment Tribe were among client wins in 2022, joining a client base that includes Gigged.ai, Fresh Car, LendingCrowd, Together Energy, Lettingweb, Mitsubishi, and Biscuit Tin.

Auld added: “We have seen a shift in the quality of the projects over the last couple of years, and in 2022 the designs, builds, and overall impact has been on a different level. Looking forward, we see financial services as a key target sector, and with a number of scale-up companies on our roster, we also see increasing work in this area.”

Auld said tech firms need to be fleet footed when it comes to the economic backdrop, technology sector layoffs, and the role tech can play in a recovery.

He said: “Companies that can adapt to the opportunities tech presents will thrive, whereas the companies that are stuck in their ways and don’t pivot will likely fail.”

Phil Telfer, CTO and co-founder, said: “Essentially, we have two main service lines. Our discovery workshop allows us to meet with the company and run a two to three day session, so we can discuss problems, challenges, and desired outcomes. We then deploy our tech team on a project basis to help businesses build, scale, and develop. Sometimes this can be our tech team working separately on a project, or it can be alongside the company’s existing tech team.”

ClearSky Logic strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Paul Duffy as chief growth officer in February. Tino Nombro and Phil Gripton are non-executive directors on the company’s board.
