Museums Galleries Scotland continue their work online.

Although unable to open during the lockdown, museums and galleries have continued their work online with exhibitions and activities to help lift spirits and educate people about history. Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), the national development body for Scottish museums and galleries, is launching a social media campaign on Monday, which is also International Museum Day. Participants should share their memories on social media, using the hashtag #MuseumsSparkJoy. The 2019 version of this campaign saw hundreds of people around the world take part, and under the current circumstances people are encouraged to support their favourite museums and galleries by sharing what they love about them with photos from previous visits. MGS CEO Lucy Casot said: “Museums and galleries across Scotland are continuing to be active participants in their communities, through providing access to digital collections and a wide range of activities, filled with creativity and care. #MuseumsSparkJoy is a chance to celebrate the fantastic museums and galleries across Scotland and the important role they play in our lives. “I have so many happy memories of time spent in museums and galleries and with the passionate workforce who care for the diverse collections that tell the story of Scotland and beyond. I am looking forward to getting back out to our amazing museums and galleries again when we can safely do so to revisit old favourites and explore new ones. “ Online exhibits to check out include the Devil’s Porridge Museum which highlights HM Factory Gretna and the military history of the Solway Coast, while children will enjoy educational resources and weekly clubs such as Book Bug sessions and The Young Historians Club.
