A national server upgrade for GP practices has caused significant issues for local services in Orkney for the second day in a row.
Family doctor services on the island have been unable to dispense prescriptions in the usual way after a planned upgrade last Thursday failed.
Those affected are Stromness, Rousay, Heilendi, Skerryvore, St Margaret’s Hope and the Orcades practices.
Heilendi and Skerryvore GP practices had been standing in for the emergency only consultations on Friday whilst IT staff tried to fix the problem.
All practices have now resumed operational services although there are still delays to issuing medications to patients, a spokesperson said.
An NHS Orkney spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, we are continuing to experience issues following our recent server upgrade.
“All GP practices are open and operating, however we would ask that you continue to bear with us while we work through these IT challenges.
“Please do continue to order your repeat prescriptions as normal but we would ask that you simply allow an additional 24 – 48 hours before collecting your prescription.”
Patients were in the meantime advised to seek information via NHS Inform, Scotland’s national health information service.
