Public sector leaders gathered in Glasgow on Monday to hear from the new cabinet secretary charged with reforming public services.
Ivan McKee, formerly public finance minister and now the Public Sector Reform secretary, led a session with public sector leaders, alongside the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.
Mr McKee, who launched the new national Digital Strategy at Digital Scotland in November, set out his vision for improved public services – tackling duplication, sharing services across organisations and making better use of data.
The event was held at the SEC in Glasgow and was a prelude to an upcoming debate in the Scottish Parliament tomorrow.
Ahead of tomorrow’s Public Service Reform: Empowering Staff, Service Users and Local Communities debate at 3pm, a motion read: “That the Parliament welcomes that the Scottish Government’s Public Service Reform Strategy centres on the importance of prevention in the development of public services; believes that it is vital to empower staff, service users and local communities to be part of the design and delivery of services that meet the needs of the people of Scotland, and agrees that the delivery of excellent and sustainable public services should be the goal of public service reform, rather than the preservation of existing corporate structures.”
