New practical tools and guidance have been released to help Scottish businesses and third sector organisations adopt AI responsibly.

The Scottish AI Alliance – a partnership between The Data Lab and the Scottish Government – has produced a series of resources designed to help organisations ‘on their journey to implementing trustworthy, ethical, and inclusive AI’.

The ‘Scottish AI Playbook‘ will include:

  • The AI Maturity Framework: A six-stage roadmap guiding businesses to navigate their AI journey confidently.
  • The Responsible AI Procurement Hub: Guidance for making informed, ethical decisions when acquiring AI tools.
  • The Governance and Regulation Hub: Practical advice to meet compliance and ethical standards while maintaining business growth.
  • The AI Training and Skills Hub: Tailored support to identify skills gaps and implement effective training for responsible AI use.
  • The People and Culture Hub: Strategies to build an AI-positive workplace culture that encourages innovation and empowers staff.

The collection of resources aligns with the Scottish Government’s #AIScotland initiative, announced in the recent Programme for Government. ‘We’re proud to demonstrate how the Scottish AI Playbook is already driving economic growth and helping position Scotland as a modern, high-growth country,’ the Scottish AI Alliance said in a statement.

The Scottish AI Alliance is tasked with the delivery of Scotland’s AI Strategy and is a partnership between The Data Lab and the Scottish Government, led by a minister-appointed chair and overseen by senior responsible officers from The Data Lab (CEO) and the Scottish Government (CDO).

The Alliance’s mission is to deliver on the vision for Scotland to become a leader in trustworthy, ethical and inclusive AI. They will do this by ’empowering Scotland’s people, supporting Scotland’s businesses and organisations, and influencing policy that impacts Scotland.’
