Smart Data Foundry (SDF) was established in 2022 to unlock the power of financial data, addressing major societal, economic, and environmental challenges. Based at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, SDF is an independent, not-for-profit spin-out of Edinburgh University. It collaborates with financial institutions like the Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority, public sector bodies, and charities to use data for good.
Partnering with these organizations, SDF utilises financial data to analyse economic dynamics and provide insights benefiting consumers, businesses, and communities. Data privacy and security are paramount, with strict ethical protocols governing its Trusted Research Environment (TRE). The TRE infrastructure is provided by the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC), a renowned supercomputing facility advancing secure, cutting-edge research.
