An NHS video calling service has been made available to local residents in West Dunbartonshire – in a move to provide easy, inclusive access for people attending medical appointments online.
The NHS Near Me service was introduced to the public library in Clydebank this week as part of efforts to offer a private and accessible space in the facility for people to attend their appointments without travelling to hospital.
The process is made possible by using a secure NHS-backed video consulting platform used across health, social care and other public services in Scotland.
It means residents can get vital medical advice closer to home, helping to reduce travel and improve access to services. It will also support those who may not have the necessary technology at home, or a quiet space for private conversations.
Councillor William Rooney, convener of corporate services, said: “We’re proud to be making services more accessible to our residents. This initiative supports further digital improvements while offering real, practical benefits for people across West Dunbartonshire.
“Our libraries are more than just about books – in fact they are community hubs which offer access to a range of services and I’m delighted that has been expanded upon once more with the introduction of the Near Me hub.”
Clydebank Library is now listed as a location for NHS patients offered a Near Me appointment at: Video Appointments
The project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), and West Dunbartonshire Libraries is now the 14th library service in Scotland to offer this facility.
This project is supported by the Scottish Government’s Digital Health and Care Directorate.
