For us at Sopra Steria, employee wellbeing takes centre stage. It is at the very heart of our long-term commitment to our people.

So, we are delighted that this commitment has been recognised by Great Place to Work UK with our ranking among the top organisations in the first UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing 2022.

The inaugural list celebrates organisations who are putting wellbeing at the forefront of their workplace culture. Investing in employee wellbeing and making it central to our people strategy has led to increased resilience among our teams, improved engagement, as well as delivering higher performance and improved productivity.

At such a turbulent time where so much has and continues to change across the world, it is important that organisations provide flexibility, choice and a level of freedom never seen before.

By giving employees more autonomy to manage their own ways of working and make their own decisions, we are seeing improved wellbeing and therefore performance. It is a significant culture shift for many organisations.

We are so proud to have created a place where our people are actively supported to be both emotionally and physically healthy – somewhere they can talk openly about their mental health and get help if they need it.

To achieve this, we take a truly holistic approach, encouraging our people to take control of their wellbeing, while giving them the support mechanisms and creating an employee-centric culture for a personalised experience.

In practice this means we provide flexibility for our people so they can achieve a healthier work-life balance. By working with them to shape their working patterns, we are supporting them to perform at their best and enjoy the benefits that such balance brings.

Of course, many businesses have made long-term changes to their ways of working as a result of the pandemic, but what sets us apart is that we are giving our people a choice and the autonomy to shape their working life.

Having introduced a range of wellbeing tools, weekly wellbeing bulletins, programmes on mindfulness, nutrition and resilience, wellbeing has become “business as usual”. It is truly embedded in our culture, and is here to stay.

Part of our long-term investment into wellbeing is our extraordinary team of fully trained volunteer mental health first aiders. They provide a first point of contact for employees to talk to about challenges affecting their mental wellbeing.

In addition, our employee assistance programme gives employees access to free, professional, independent and impartial information, support and counselling in total confidence.

And the benefits extend beyond our front door. Being ‘a great place to work’ readily spreads to our client engagements and the culture we bring as part of our overall service. So, today we celebrate our place in the UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing while acknowledging that the work does not stop there.

We understand that wellbeing is deeply personal and ever-changing, so there is always more we can do, more we can change and more we can invest in so that wellbeing remains at the heart of our commitment to our people.

We would like to sincerely thank our customers in the Scottish public sector who have supported our people-centric approach. Their backing of our commitment to our people has enabled us to create such an inclusive and supportive workplace.
