Hundreds of applications and large parts of the IT estate across government carry significant technical debt and every major version update requires extensive testing and refactoring, consuming scarce resources that should be directed toward digital services and innovation.
Pega brings over two decades of UK government experience supporting many mission-critical services across the public sector.
Our AI-powered platform – recognised as a Leader in five separate Gartner and Forrester reports in 2025 – offers a proven pathway from legacy complexity to digital agility.
The platform continues to help build smarter, faster, and more efficient digital services across government, transforming work, streamlining processes, automating tasks, and most importantly, improving both the employee and customer experience.
Helping the UK government in their mission to provide fair, consistent, and more efficient digital services for citizens and businesses across the UK. Delivering that mission in a complex organisation, with diverse customer needs, legacy systems, and evolving policy, has never been a simple task
Pega Blueprint is Pegasystems’ AI-driven legacy modernisation toolset and methodology, aimed specifically at tackling modernisation projects: limited documentation, lengthy discovery, and technical debt. Many legacy systems (especially in government) lack up-to-date documentation, and the original developers may be long gone.
Traditionally, teams spend months deciphering how an old system works before they can even begin redesigning it.
Pega Blueprint flips this model by using AI to do that heavy lifting in hours or days. It looks at whatever is available –e.g. database schemas, COBOL copybooks, user interface screenshots, transaction logs – and cross-analyses them to infer the business processes and rules embedded in the legacy system.
It then generates a proposed process flow and data model for the new application, highlighting how things could be streamlined or improved (not just a one-for-one conversion). This gives business and IT teams a head start: rather than starting from a blank slate, they begin with an AI-generated draft of the new workflow, which they can validate and adjust.
The result is a much faster path to modernisation – Pega reports that Blueprint has cut design and development time from months to weeks or even days on complex projects and better still a means to operational efficiency gains through automation and workforce enablement.
