A Scottish electric vehicle infrastructure provider has installed 54 charging points at a ferry terminal in Sweden.
FOR EV, an Edinburgh-based company, has worked in partnership with Stena Line to bring the charging points to passengers embarking on journeys from Karlskrona Port, in the south-east of the country.
It marks the second collaboration between FOR EV and Stena Line. The first project, a successful energisation of Stena Line’s UK site at Cairnryan Port, near Stranraer, provided a significant boost for the 1.3 million annual customers and the local community.
Steve Dunlop, chief executive officer at FOR EV, said: “This project demonstrates our commitment to deliver top-tier EV infrastructure. Our largest project to date, it showcases our ability to scale and meet growing demand, both in terms of capacity and geographical reach. It ensures that everyone visiting Karlskrona Port, whether for leisure or business, will have access to modern and reliable EV charging facilities.
“Our goal is to make the EV charging experience as seamless as possible, allowing travellers to charge their vehicles before or after their ferry journey, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all users.”
The strategic partnership offers a fully-funded solution, removing any costs for Stena Line and provides much-needed EV charging for their customers. The agreement includes the installation, operation and maintenance of rapid charging stations for all types of electric vehicles (EVs).
The new charging hub consists of 54 charge points supplying 1200 kilowatts (kW) across the site. FOR EV has installed a combination of AC and DC charging technology designed to meet the needs of Stena Line and its passengers. This includes a dedicated charge point for vans and HGVs offering a seamless and convenient charging experience with real-time monitoring.
This significant investment in EV infrastructure and supply of 100% fully accredited renewable energy will help reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Monica Strandhag, CEO of Karlskrona Baltic Port AB, said: “The installation of EV charging points is a practical step that supports our work to modernise the port and reduce environmental impact. It’s a good example of how strong partnerships can deliver meaningful improvements in infrastructure.”
